Description
Photograph of the Port of Los Angeles, San Pedro Harbor and Terminal Railroad Depot, around 1905. The view is from the dock southwest to the mouth of the breakwater. Deadman's Island has not yet been removed, it is visible on the left side of the mouth. The ships which appear include both steam and sailing vessels. A railroad runs in the foreground, to the docks on which lumber has been unloaded. Another railroad appears in the background, on the other side of the channel. As Los Angeles tripled its population between 1900 and 1910, causing the real estate and contruction industries to boom, large quantities of lumber were imported from the Pacific Northwest.
