Description
Monrovia's first School building, built in 1887 for $18,000 at Orange (now Colorado) Avenue. Elementary grades on the ground floor, high School on the second floor. "The School House: Architect L.R. Blair yesterday showed a Planet reporter the plans for tho $10,000 School house, which will be built at the corner of Mayflower and Orange avenues. The contract will be let in a few days and an effort will be made to have the building completed for the beginning of the fall term. It will be two stories high and contain six School rooms. The dimensions are 86 feet on Orange and 60 feet on Mayflower avenues. Each School room averages 28x35 feet in size. The main entrance will be on Orange avenue. The ground floor will also contain hallways, cloak rooms, principal's office and janitor's room. There will be folding doors between the three School rooms, both upstairs and down. When these doors are opened two very large audience rooms may be had. There will be a large tower in the center front. When completed this will be a very attractive building." From Monrovia Planet, May 28,1887 Vol. 1 No. 28.
