Description
The doll wears a headdress typical of HMong groups in Northern Thailand. The outfit is Green Mong or Mong Leng, based on its form fitting and long-sleeved jacket lined with red cuffs and collars. The skirt is decorated with layers fo multi-colored fabric and is paired with nrhoob (leg wraps) used to keep warm. The doll wears pink and green sash belts over her jacket and skirt, as well silver chains and neck rings, called xauv (White HMong) or paug (Green HMong). Her headdress is wrapped in a very tall style, and is decorated with sequins, embroidery, and red pompoms on top. She carries a woven basket in her right hand, and a long stick in her left hand. Typed label affixed to doll stand reads, (on front) 'Meo Lai,' (on back) 'North Thai Dolls.'
The Meo Lai (Striped HMong) label on doll stand is a misidentification, and has been updated to reflect the more accurate Green Mong or Mong Leng based on the style of dress worn by the doll.
