Description
Photograph of the exterior of Mission San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo taken by Vischer, before 1875. The adobe façade of the building is composed of an elaborate arched doorway set into a tall wall and flanked by two towers the one on the left is topped by a dome. There is a large compass-shaped window above the doorway. The building shows signs of disrepair, as the spackle is missing from the adobe in several places and there are wooden planks and boards lying around haphazardly.
