Description
Standing in the center of the black ballet company of 23 dancers is Arthur Mitchell who, starting from scratch five years ago, created a racially integrated dance and music school in Harlem. Mitchell, the only black dancer to ever reach the top in a major classic ballet company, wanted to give his own people the opportunity for ballet training so that the American ballet would not remain overwhelmingly white.
