Description
Joe Cherpin was born in 1926 into a wine making family in the Fontana area and experienced first-hand many of the changes Southern California’s wine industry has gone through in both the Cucamonga wine growing area and later in the burgeoning Temecula region. Around 1923, his family purchased 30 acres of land located in Fontana between the Southern Pacific Railroad and Valley Boulevard to produce wine. In this interview, Joe discusses the business of being a vintner during Prohibition in the 1920s from his family's perspective and how his father sold grapes in the market.
