Photograph caption dated October 20, 1962 reads, "Melody Hauser, 16, Canoga Park, just doesn't seem to have enough hands to respond to the congratulatory shakes being offered her after winning the Community Chest Speak-Off for all Valley schools. At left is Melody's speech coach at Canoga High School, Mrs. Sylvia Lee. Other finalists in the contest were Dan Perlman, Birmingham High, Van Nuys; Minnette Gersh, Grant High, Van Nuys; Ken Hirons, Monroe High, North Hollywood; Paul Akers, Poly High, Sun Valley; Nick Sica, San Fernando High; and George Edwards, Sylmar High."
