Description
Fourth of July parade in 1908. Edna Parkes is on the travois, the sled which is being dragged by a horse. Florence Parkes is dressed as a squaw walking behind the travois. The crowd is in front of Dowd's Fashion Stables (later Dowd's Moving and Storage) at 157 Throckmorton Ave. Next door was the Mill Valley Market, a meat market operated by Carl Kaths from 1901-1910 (unrelated to the Mill Valley Market grocery store opened by Frank Canepa in 1929). There are two versions of this photograph.
