Description
Julian Fellowes discusses his book, “Snobs.” He begins by explaining the plot, which follows Edith Lavery, the only child of an upper-middle class family with social aspirations, living in England during the 1990s. Luckily she is able to obtain such aspirations when she meets and marries Lord Charles Broughton. However, once married she is still not accepted into the social realm into which she has wed and is snubbed and humiliated by her husband’s peers. In response Edith begins an affair with actor Simon Russell. Later during the interview Fellowes discusses the power of the writer to immortalize characters. He also discusses his career in theater and changes in the British theater over the past fifty years. He explains how being a trained actor contributed to his ability to write successful screenplays, specifically in reference to his Academy Award winning script "Gosford Park." Also in this interview he reads aloud from his work.
