"Sick Repatriate Reaches Japan -- A sickly Japanese woman repatriated from the United States rises on her elbows on her stretcher after being carried from the liner Matsonia at Uraga, Japan, Christmas Day. Two hundred eighty-five families returned to Japan on the vessel. For their first meal in Japan, a Christmas dinner, the repatriates were given rice, boiled celery and a slice of apricot." -- caption on photograph.
