Image of nine rearing horses flanking a ringmaster; with small portraits of P.T Barnum, J.A. Bailey and J.L. Hutchinson in a panel at left; date sheet for a July 4, [1882], show in Concord, New Hampshire, pasted below image.
Probable date based on month and day in item text of attached panel and the circus's history; P.T. Barnum's Greatest Show on Earth and Howes' Great London Circus and Sanger's Royal British Menagerie (nicknamed the Barnum & London Circus) held shows from 1881 until 1887. "No. 75"--text, upper right of image. "The Strobridge Lithographing Co. Cincinnati & New York"--text, lower left. "Only splendid group of Italian Stallions as they appear in intricate and graceful evolutions at every performance. They illustrate the acme of equine grace and in their tricks, exhibit a perfection seen in no other breed of horses on Earth"--text, bottom center caption of image. "Last tour in America visits Europe next year / Barnum, Bailey & Hutchinson, - sole owners.- / Daily expenses $4,800.00 / Representing $3,000,000.00"--text, continuation of title, lower center margin.
