"This is a picture of a missionary picnic supper in Tengchowfu, Shantung [now Shandong], China in the summer of 1898. At the far end of the table is Rev. Harry Luce the first of that family I knew...." The photo of missionaries seated on the ground around a spread of food also includes the Luce's son, Henry R. Luce. From the collection of the Hartwell family, two generations of American Baptist missionaries serving in China between 1858 and the 1940s.
