Description
Chandler writes on the rush to Virginia City, and the high sales prices of some claims. He writes that his “most extravagant expectations are very likely to be realized in a short time, but from 20 to 100 thousand is not considered much of a raise in this country of silver and gold.” He writes that the Pony Express arrived last evening in 8 days and 20 hours. Notations in pencil on the first page at the top read: “Great expectations. Pony Express.” Pencil marks highlight certain parts of the text pertaining to the title.
