Description
View of an old stone wall on property identified as "Domec Ranch" - possibly a reference to Pierre Domec (see notes, below). Pierre Domec's homestead was in present-day Chatsworth, California.
Title transcribed from negative. Date range approximated by cataloger based on the year that film negatives came into use and the latest known dates indicated for other Hazard images in the Huntington's collection. "Domec" is possibly a reference to Pierre Domec: "The stock on Stearns' ranches was then in charge of Pierre Domec, a well-known and prosperous man..." (Source: p. 344, "Sixty Years in Southern California, 1853-1913, Containing the Reminiscences of Harris Newmark," The Knickerbocker Press, 1926.) The Pierre Domec homestead was on Rancho El Escorpion (present-day Chatsworth area of the San Fernando Valley.) (Source: Solano-Reeve collection, Huntington Library: [Rancho el] Escorpion [parcel of Pierre Domec].) Condition note: White "flaring" seen on the edge of this digital image is present in the original negative.
