White with heat and black with smoke, this was the height of the $500,000 blaze that raged through the Rothschild Oil Co. at 12356 Lakeland Road. Blaze threatened between 4 and 5 million gallons of petroleum products. As it was, 11 storage tanks burst into flames. They and four buildings were a total loss. Firemen, risking their lives, finally brought the fire under control. Photo dated May 19, 1954.
