Description
Title supplied by cataloger.
Partial view of the 15-acre Beverly Hills Spanish style estate, commonly known as 'Enchanted Hill,' belonging to silent film actor Fred Thomson (1890-1928) and his second wife Frances Marion. Wallace Neff designed the home.; Caption one reads, "Though Thomson was a clergy man, he worshipped physical excellence and competition. He and Gene Tunney were 'buddies' and the champion often was his guest at his picturesque country estate in Hollywood hills, the entrance to which is shown above. And he always was at the ringside when Tunney fought. Thomson was a greatly popular star and reputed a millionaire." Caption two reads, "One of the entrances to the Spanish country home of Fred Thomson, who recently signed a contract to release his future pictures through Paramount." Photo is dated December 27, 1928, two days after Thomson passed away.; A native Californian who attended Occidental College, Thomson became a Presbyterian minister prior to entering the film industry. Frances Marion, whom he married in 1919, was a close friend of Mary Pickford and was responsible for helping Thomson to become an actor. During his years as an actor, he became the preminent Western genre actor, rivaling the work of Tom Mix. In December of 1928, after having stepped on a nail, Thomson contracted tetanus and died on Christmas Day. He is buried at Forest Lawn in Glendale.
