Photograph caption dated January 18, 1949 reads, "Nationally famous sports celebrities abound at the Valley Times Banquet of Champions which this year will be held Feb. 9 at the Valley Park Country Club. Here are three noteables [sic] who participated on the 1948 program. Left to right, Jimmy Dykes, new coach of the Philadelphia Athletics, gets an earful from Casey Stengel, now manager of the New York Yankees. On the far right is Jeff Cravath, the U.S.C. coach who performed one of the miracles of 1948 by tieing [sic] Notre Dame, 14-14. The banquet honors the outstanding sports champions of the Valley. This year the festivities are open to the public."
