Boris Mikhailovich Kustodiev, 1878-1927. Painter, graphic artist. [Biography (English)] Born 23.II (7.III, O.S.) 1878, Astrakhan died 26.V.1927, Detskoe Selo, near Leningrad 1892-96 attended the Ecclesiastical Seminary in Astrakhan 1893-96 took private lessons from a local artist 1896 entered the Higher Art Institute of the Academy of Arts 1898 entered the studio of Ilia Repin there 1900 contributed to the "Spring Exhibition" of the Academy of Arts, the first of many exhibitions 1902-03 helped Repin with the painting "The Session of the State Council" (Russian Museum) 1903 with Dmitrii Stelletskii visited Novgorod to study ancient Russian art 1903-04 lived in Paris studied under René Menard member of the New Society of Artists, St. Petersburg 1905 contributed cartoons to the satirical journal Zhupel 1907 member of the Union of Russian Artists helped Alexander Golovin design sets at the MariinskiiTheater, St. Petersburg visited to Italy with Stelletskii 1908 moved to Moscow 1909 traveled in Austria, France, Italy, and Germany 1910 onward contributed regularly to the World of Art exhibitions 1911 visited Switzerland thereafter traveled widely in Europe 1914 worked on the production of Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin's "Death of Pazukhin" for the Moscow Art Theater, the first of several collaborations there 1916 first symptoms of creeping paralysis 1918 took part in the anniversaries of the Revolution in Petrograd 1920 one-man exhibition at the House of Arts, Petrograd 1922 began to work with linocuts 1923 member of the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia 1925 designed Evgenii Zamiatin's "The Flea" for the Moscow Art Theater contributed to the "Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs," Paris.(Bowlt, 1994, p. 169.) В 1892-96 учился в Астраханской семинарии в 1893-96 брал частные уроки у местного художника в 1896 поступил в Петербургскую Академию художеств в 1898 начал обучение в мастерской И. Е. Репина в 1901 принял участие в Весенней выставке Академии художеств в 1902-03 помогал Репину в создании его главной работы «Заседание Государственного Совета» в 1903 вместе с Д. С. Стеллецким ездил в Новгород изучать древнерусское искусство в 1903-04 жил в Париже и учился у Рене Менара был членом Нового общества художников в Петербурге в 1905 сотрудничал как карикатурист в сатирическом журнале «Жупел» в 1907 стал членом Союза русских художников. Помогал А. Я.
