Description
Photograph of the front of the church of San Carlos Borromeo Mission in Monterey, ca.1903. Square bell tower is on the left corner. Crosses are atop both the tiled roof of the bell tower as well as the peak of the front facade of the church proper. A picket fence fronts the property. This was the presidio chapel at Monterey -- the first site of the mission which was later moved to Carmel. There is a small sign on the front door, "Notice, visitors wishing to see the[...]".
