Born in 1831 in Saxony, Prussia. Came to California in 1852 with Katherine Hayes' Opera Troupe (famous singer), settling in San Francisco. Played piano and organ, music teacher, conducted orchestras and singing groups, composer. Active in San Francisco musical scene, associated with early Italian opera productions, choral and symphonies. Died in 1888.
