Description
Label for H-S Currant Jelly, prepared in the Santa Clara Valley and guaranteed by The Shaw Family, Inc. San Jose, Cal. Net Weight 14 ounces. Red oval on dark green background, with white lettering. The Shaw Family Company produced fruit juices, jams and jellies. It was founded in 1908 by Elton Randall Shaw, a native of San Francisco. Two years earlier he had collabrated with James Dole in Honolulu to produce the first pineapple juice. For many years the Shaw Family produced distinctive line of quality fruit specialities, in addition to pineapple and prune juices. Elton R. Shaw in 1916 served the first City Council in San Jose to operate under a City Manager form of government. His son Elton S. Shaw was a Director of the National Canners Association and Canner's League of California. Elton R. Shaw died in 1949. The Shaw family operation continued into the 1950s.
