Description
View of a residential section in Fort MacArthur, named in honor of Lt. Gen. Arthur MacArthur, the father of General Douglas MacArthur. Fort MacArthur was commissioned as a U.S. Army fort in 1914, and served as a training center during World War I. It was in service until 1974, and was decommissioned in 1976 after which it was declared a surplus. In 1977 the tideland section and part of the lower reservation were transferred over to the City of Los Angeles. In 1982 the rest of Fort MacArthur lower reservation was transferred to the U.S. Air Force. They subsequently turned the facility into a family housing for members of the U.S. Air Force Station, Los Angeles. The large white duplex at the forefront with an address of "7B" has a sign on the sidewalk that reads: "Col. & Mrs. Bagley". Photograph dated August 2001.
