“Female ward, Chogoria Hosp. 1941. (note roof raised off walls for light, air & coolness.” Interior view of the female ward with the matron’s desk at the front and patients and nurses behind. During this period the hospital had increased in size and the staff had doubled. Miss J. C. Wilson had instigated training for nurses, in 1939, and the predominately male staffing at the hospital became more balanced. ❧ The image is from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the period from 1928-1947 at the Chogoria mission which was established near Mt Kenya, in 1922, and run by Dr Irvine.
