Shows Saranac anchored in strait; Vallejo in background.
Saranac, a side wheel steam sloop of ware, laid down in 1847 in Portsmouth Navy Yard, N.H., launched in 1848. Saw service along Atlantic coast in Home Squadron, beginning in 1853 was in Mediterranean, in 1857 sailed for the West Coast, serving there until wrecked in 1875.
