Description
1989-1225. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 14. A facade view of the Stanford home with staircases from two sides which lead to the staircase to the front door; above the front door is an entablature that bears a balcony flanked by two urn-like elements; four windows on first floor and five windows on second -- all windows crowned by a decorative curving lintel; a mansard roof has three attic windows - the center one larger than the flanking ones; all three attic windows have round arches; on the right trees flank the photo and on the left another wing stretches beyond the photo. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "cor. 8th & N street...Sacramento Home of Leland Stanford, inaugurated as Governor of California, January 10th, 1862, (8th Governor) Occupied by him and his family from 1862, until about 1873."
