V1p174b In PHOTO ALBUM-VAULT: ** fc917.9461 A3, Vol. I, page 174 bottom. This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco." Caption printed on photo: "#187. T.E. Heght 430 35th Ave [most of address torn off]. View from Woodward's Gardens." Text written under photo: "Scene in Woodward's Gardens 1881. xx United States Marin [sic] Hospital Buildings Fifteenth and Mission Streets [with x's by appropriate structures]." View of Woodward's looking southeast across pond and conservatory. The two Marine Hospital buildings can be seen in the background in the middle of the sparsely settled Mission District. Potrero Hill is in the left background occupied by few buildings. In view of the surrounding building density, this photo may have been taken ten or so years earlier than indicated in note by photo.
