The Victory House was a temporary Art Deco structure in Pershing Square. Initially called Defense House, it was an entertainment area created for rallies and selling war bonds and tax stamps. Events occurred almost daily often with celebrity appearances. In February 1942, its name was changed to Victory House. Los Angeles' city councilmen are joining the "band wagon." Dr. G. Vernon Bennett (right), President of the City Council, and Councilman Edward L. Thrasher are shown buying war bonds and stamps from Mary Ellen Gleason (left), and Lila Deane, when they appeared with other councilmen and Mayor Bowron at a program at Victory House in Pershing Square, June 27, 1942.
