Photograph article dated March 24, 1965 partially reads, "Sen. Thomas J. Dodd (D-Conn.) spoke out strongly last night for use of nonlethal gas against the Red Viet Cong and for no conciliatory moves toward the Communists, because these have 'always been interpreted as signs of weakness and have inspired new aggressions.' Dodd, who spoke at a Food Industry for America dinner celebrating the bi-centennial of American free enterprise in Beverly Hills, said at a press conference in the Beverly Hilton: 'The gas that was used against the Red Viet Cong was no more than is used in our country to quell riots. It is not lethal. I'm for leaving to the military their choice of weapons; but in no case should we let the Communists call the shots. We must never surrender to them. While we should exploit the very real rift between the Soviets and Chinese, we must do it with skill, realizing always that both are Communists,' Dodd said."
