Description
Photograph of the exterior of the ship "Seamen's Bethel" in San Pedro, ca.1914. The wooden ship is on the land, held upright by large wooden beams. The upper deck is much wider than the rest of the ship, and several doors and windows line the wooden side. There is a small dinghy on the ground by the side of the ship. There is a plaque, presumably bearing the name of the ship, on the bow near the right edge of the image. "This boat was one of the best known boats at the Harbor in the early days. Built as the Warrior, to carry freight to Catalina in 1880. In 1906, it was shoved upon the beach and the upper deck enlarged and used as a church until 1921, when it was destroyed by a fire". Compares to CHS-3212, which shows the chapel inside the ship.
