Photograph caption dated September 6, 1948 reads "Among the top performers at Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus premiere Saturday night were, left to right, Bing Crosby (yes that's him), as clown; Bob Hope, as a powder puff valet, and Betty Grable, in Christmas pageant." Hundreds of top film and radio personalities lent their help either performing or working behind the scenes at this circus event to raise money for a new 100-bed wing at the St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, California. The circus took place on the Pan-Pacific grounds in the Fairfax district of Los Angeles, California. Other performers included such notables as Gregory Peck, Harpo Marx, Elizabeth Taylor, Lucille Ball and many other top artists.
