Description
Fireside Lanes Bowling Alley at 7901 Auburn Blvd. is shown in 1960. Constructed in the same year and set in the Grand Oaks Shopping Center, the 24-lane structure contained a coffee shop and cocktail lounge, the latter housing the alley's namesake stone fireplace. Furniture was crafted in a Danish modern style and an intercommunication system permitted bowlers to contact the control desk or order refreshments without leaving their seats. From the 1970s onward, the Fireside served as the home alley for Roseville native Steve Cook, who went on to three major championships in the Professional Bowlers Association tour. At the time of its opening, the alley was owned and operated by Jon Rodine and Tom Rugg.
