Description
From audio tape 17A-000: Lilly Mendes is Glenn Way's sister. She grew up on the home ranch in Lincoln, Placer County, California, and married Les Mendes, a native of Dutch Flat, California. Don Mendes is their son. Les Mendes worked for Ben Bramer in the gravel pits on Spanish Creek and Silver Creek. Both Bramer and Coats had a truck yard at the George Moore Ranch, Meadow Valley. Interestingly enough, George and Ed Moore likewise ran a freight business, one strictly powered by horses. The Mendes family rented lodging on the George Moore ranch, and this photo was taken on Christmas, 1926.
