Description
V2p109e -- v2p109f In PHOTO ALBUM-VAULT: ** fc917.9461 A3, Vol. II, page 109 bottm left and bottom right. These photographs are contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco." Text written under photos: "Funeral escort to remains of General [Frederick] Funston Marching west on Market St 1916." Shows Hale Brothers store on the right side of Market Street. View 1 page 109 bottom left (v2p109e). View towards south side of Market Street showing casket being pulled by a team of horses. A United Railroads "Chicago" car outbound on the 5 McAllister line is right beside it. View 2 page 109 bottom right (v2p109f). View towards the Ferry Building showing a group of young cadets marching in the funeral procession. The rest of Market Street is occupied by automobiles and various classes of United Railroads streetcars. These photos do not match the description of the movement of Funston's casket described in the San Francisco Examiner of February 24, 1917, indicating that they are of someone else's funeral procession. Both photos were taken looking east from the corner of Market, Mason, and Turk streets and show the procession moving west on the north side of Market, leaving the rest of the street free for other traffic.
