Description
Shown is Sutter's Fort, circa 1975. Obtaining the land from the Mexican Governor of California, John A. Sutter built the fort within a few years, finishing in 1839. Sutter's Fort became a beacon for pioneers and gold-seekers, as its location was prime for trade and respite. The State of California restored the site in 1891.
