Description
Survival school students (L-R), Marilyn Chandler, Joel Turner, Jack Madeley, an unidentified assistant, and Allen Mons stand in the middle of a grass lawn near a wooden table. They learn to bandage simulated injuries and wounds by using fabric. The 160-acre camp, better known as the Starlight Training Center in Liberal, Missouri, was owned by Harry Claflin, a former U.S. Marine in Vietnam. The students are U.S. civilians with different backgrounds and professions who paid money in exchange for survivalist training. Claflin studied the tactics, troop proficiency, and military effectiveness of foreign countries like those in Central America where he trained Guatemalan, Nicaraguan, and Salvadoran special forces. All his assistants have law enforcement or military backgrounds as well.
