V1p284c In PHOTO ALBUM-VAULT: ** fc917.9461 A3, Vol. I, page 284 second from bottom. This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco." Text written under photo: "Jack Johnson with his white? wife 1911. Photograph taken in front of the Cliff House 1911." Photo shows World Heavyweight Champion Jack Johnson, accompanied by his wife, driving his car around the curve in front of the Cliff House. According to Jerry Flamm in "Hometown San Francisco, " Johnson got numerous speeding tickets racing this car through Golden Gate Park. The old carriage sheds, now used for autos, can be seen behind. The Cliff House-Sutro Baths streetcar terminal is visible in the left distance. Negative, no. 5242 (4x5 in.)
