Description
Man with videotape camera/recorder, demonstrating, with Golden Gate Bridge in background, ca. 1960. (advertising photograph) On back: "ONE MAN OPERATION: New battery-powered videotape recorder and camera combination from Ampex weighs less than 50 pounds, permits single operator to tape news events for immediate broadcasting. One-tenth the size of any previous standard broadcast videotape recorder, the Model VR-3000 recorder is easily carried on the back of the operator. Controls for operating recorder are contained in [the] 13-pound camera." (Ampex first introduced a practical videotape recorder in 1956, two years later producing a unit for recording and reproducing color television).
