Photograph of a Hopi Indian snake priest on the snake kiva retrieving the emetic during the Hopi Snake Dance Ceremony, Oraibi, Arizona, ca.1898. The four barefoot women who brought the emetic are huddled in a group at right. The top of a ladder sticks up out of the kiva. Several pottery jugs lay on the ground in the cluster of women. Several spectators stand and sit on the ground and dwellings of the pueblo in the background looking on.
