Description
Image of a crowd sitting amid beach umbrellas watching two pugilists boxing in an outdoor boxing ring on the beach in front of the Santa Monica Athletic Club in Santa Monica, California. The crane and flat-bottom barge at the end of the pier that was used to build the breakwater in 1934 can be seen at upper left.
Title devised by cataloger based on note from envelope the negative was received in: "Santa Monica A.C. Boxing." Date devised by cataloger based on year the breakwater was constructed. The Los Angeles Athletic Club purchased a building at 1441 Palisades Beach Road (the North Beach Bath House) and transformed it into the Santa Monica Athletic Club in 1922.
