Description
Photo--black and white: Pomo basket makers -Mabel McKay is pictured holding up sedge used in Pomo basket weavers. Sedge is gathered year 'round and is found near springs or along streams. The roots are soaked and stripped of bark to form long white strands which are used to weave baskets. Pomo basket makers have long been recognized as some of the premier basket weavers in the world. Their baskets are extraordinarily beautiful and encompass a variety of shapes, function, designs and styles of weaving.
