Description
The stūpa is the most important structure of the monastery. It is the largest stūpa and brick structure of the ancient world. It was also the third highest edifice of the ancient world. Original height: 400 feet (120 meters) Diameter: 370 feet (112 meters). Today: height: approximately 232 feet (70 meters); diameter: 367 feet (112 meters). The monastery was built in the location formerly known as the Nandana Gardens. Many artifacts discovered during excavations are displayed in the Jetavana Museum.
