Microfilm of the diary of Ethan Pettit, kept from 1855-1878. The volume opens when Pettit was serving on his Indian mission to the Elk Mountains in Colorado. The remainder of the volume from 1856-1878 focuses on Pettit's life in Utah, and primarily recounts farm, livestock, and agricultural work. All inquiries about this item should be directed to the H. Forms part of the Manuscripts Department's Mormon file, c.1805-1995. Ethan Pettit (1810-1884) was born in Queens, New York. After converting to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1840, he traveled to Nauvoo before emigrating to Utah with the Heber C. Kimball Company in 1848. He served on an Indian mission to the Elk Mountains in 1855. In Utah he settled near Salt Lake City and worked as a farmer and stockraiser. Pettit died in Salt Lake City in 1884.
