Description
Note: Als Nr. 70 publiziert im Album 'Achtzig Ansichten von der Goldküste (Westafrika) nach Originalaufnahmen des Missionars Fritz Ramseyer', Neuenburg 1895.
Note translation: Published as no 70 in the album 'Achtzig Ansichten von der Goldküste (Westafrika) nach Originalaufnahmen des Missionars Fritz Ramseyer' (= 'Eighty pictures of the Gold Coast (West Africa) photographed by the missionary Fritz Ramseyer'), Neuenburg 1895. - Caption there: "The River Afram. - Not only are rocks, stones and lumps of clay worshipped as fetishes. Certain rivers are also seen as protective deities, for instance the River Afram, which flows by five hours north of Abetifi. This picture shows us the river. Every year sheep and goats are sacrificed to it, so that it will be merciful to the people and supply them richly with fish."
