Description
Scope/Content: Manuscript.
Scope/Content: Manuscript cookbook containing cookery and medical recipes, as well as some accounts for Hanley Castle, Worcestershire in 1722. Written in several different hands dating from the 1660s to the late 18th century, this volume seems to have circulated amongst members of the Hornyold family of Blackmore Park in the parish of Hanley Castle. Though the Hornyolds' connection to the other names appearing on the front endpapers is unclear, several recipes are attributed to other members of the English Catholic community (the Hornyold's were a well-established Catholic family).
Condition: Bound in mid-seventeenth century black morocco with a wreath and floral springs tooled on covers; gold fillets tooled on covers and spine; many tears to covers and much wear to spine.
