Description
Constructed 1887. Located near 221-277 S Myrtle. The Opera House had a stage and a few sets. Photos of the 'Deestrict School' prodcution and Pirates of Penzance took place there. Dr. Kellogg Lane and S. Lane Dentists office were there. Both demolished in the 1908's to make way for the CitiBank bldg. The local Masonic Lodge met on the 2nd floor of the Opera House. "Accompanying picture shows the W.G. Spence and A Stedman blocks. They are situated on Myrtle avenue north of the City Hall. The upper floor of the Spence block is occupied by Dr. Kellogg-Lane, and Dr. C.S. Lane, dentist, where they have finely fitted offices. The lower floor is occupied by St. Luke's Mission (Episcopalian), and Briggs & Co.'s lemon curing establishment. The Stedman block contains the Masonic Hall upstairs, and the Opera House on the ground floor. The Masons are very comfortably situated, for in addition to a pleasant and well appointed lodge room, they have a banquet hall, with kitchen attached. The Opera House Company has recently fitted up on the ground floor a public hall having a seating capacity of six hundred, with a commodious stage, and dressing rooms, and several changes of scenery."
