Robert L. Nider, 36, ex-paratrooper, shot and killed himself in his automobile as sheriff's deputies sought him for the mysterious strangulation murder of his pretty sweetheart, Mrs. Celia S. Zdon, 29, allegedly a result from a furious lover's quarrel. Richard Zdon, the victim's 12-year-old son along with a friend, found her body when they returned home from a Boy Scout meeting.
Photograph caption dated November 12, 1947 reads, "Their arms around each other, Matthew Zdon, divorced husband of woman strangled to death, and their son, Richard, 12, try to console each other after Richard discovered mother's body on sofa. Matthew says he and divorcee had planned re-marriage."
