2008-1747 PHOTO: ADVERTISEMENTS: BILLBOARDS Shows sandy hillside (or sand dune) with billboard in foreground. Row trees visible in background, right side. "H.S. Hoyt" stamped on back. Possibly commissioned by Varney & Green to document their signs. Company was owned by Jacob Charles Green and Thomas H.B. Varney between 1904 and 1908. Firm did outdoor advertising, bill posting, painted signs, street cars, railroad bulletins, fence advertising. Operated in San Francisco Bay Area, San Jose, Los Angeles and various small towns in California.
