Description
This photo taken at the Armstrong vs Carter fight held at the Olympic, depicts the odd moment in the second round when Carter's seconds tossed in the towel signifying "we've had enough." Referee Abe Roth, however, refused to accept the surrender and made Carter answer the bell for the third round before stopping the fight and awarding the technical knockout victory to "Bomber" Armstrong. Armstrong handed Carter a severe beating. Photo dated: June 16, 1937.
