Description
This circa-1957 photograph shows the Arcade Baptist Church during construction at 3927 Marconi Ave. When completed in 1959, the $165,000 structure had a seating capacity of 850 and included a pastor's study, flower and communion preparation room, choir room, prayer room, radio control room, and youth activity center. The Rev. Lee W. Toms founded the group in 1952 in a fig orchard where the church eventually would be built.
