Shows American Trust Building under construction and railroad depot. In background: Mercantile Trust Company of California building on left; Francis Kittredge Shattuck Building on right.
Southern Pacific Railroad depot constructed between 1906 and 1908; architect, Daniel James Patterson. American Trust Building constructed between 1925 and 1927 for the Central Berkeley Building Company; architect was Walter H. Radcliff, Jr. American Trust Building had series of names: Chamber of Commerce Building, Wells Fargo Building (current name). Francis Kittredge Shattuck Building built in 1901; architects, Stone & Smith (Lewis S. Stone, Henry C. Smith).
